George Hees is a highly accomplished and respected figure in Southern California volleyball, with over two decades of coaching experience across indoor and beach programs. Known for his strong leadership, competitive success, and dedication to athlete development, George has left a lasting impact at every program he’s been part of.
He is currently the head junior varsity indoor coach and head varsity beach coach at Newbury Park High School, where he continues to shape high-performing teams and mentor athletes on and off the court.
Prior to his role at Newbury Park, George spent 14 seasons as the head varsity girls coach at Oaks Christian School, where he also served as the head varsity boys coach (2004–2012) and varsity beach coach (2013–2019). His programs consistently ranked among the best in the region, competing at the highest levels and earning accolades year after year.
Over the course of his career, George has earned numerous awards, including:
• 4-time CIF Champion (2004–2008)
• CIF Runner-Up (2013)
• CIF State Playoff Appearance (2013)
• NCSAA National Coach of the Year
• 3-time CIF Southern Section Coach of the Year
• 3-time Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year
• 2-time Marmonte League Coach of the Year
He has led his teams to more than 15 league championships and has coached over 30 boys and girls who have gone on to play collegiate volleyball at the Division I, II, and III levels—a testament to his ability to develop talent and prepare athletes for the next stage of their careers.
George is an alumnus of Westlake High School, where he was a standout three-year varsity player. He continued his volleyball career at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, a respected academic and athletic institution.
In addition to coaching, George has served as a teacher in the Las Virgenes Unified School District since 2001. He is also a devoted family man—he and his wife, Tara, are the proud parents of four children: Reilly, George, Molly, and Cait.
Now entering his eighth year with Reef Volleyball Club, George brings a rare combination of experience, competitive excellence, and mentorship that continues to elevate every athlete and team he works with.
